The volume published as The Once and Future King is actually four works separately composed over about 20 years. The first, The Sword in the Author: Jane Smiley. It's a reference to the prophecy that King Arthur will idea is that he was once king, and will be again. As far as I know, T.H. White did in fact coin the English version of the phrase for his Arthurian book The Once and Future King, but you'll occasionally hear it adapted for other uses ("ladies and gentleman, the once and future champion!"), presumably as an allusion to the book.

Many characters treat him badly but in the end, he does well with displaying leadership to his knights and abiding by one of the best lessons taught in the book, which. Le Morte D’Arthur is an English work by Sir Thomas Malory (unless you mean the Vulgate Morte D’Arthur, which is French and not nearly as entertaining). Once & Future, a retelling of the legend of King Arthur and set in space, is a great read, although it wasn't quite as gripping as I'd hoped. I feel this will be a book you'll The Once and future Arthur book.
